Quick answer

As of October 2026, an Unlimited Base Set Charizard 4/102 sells for about $250 to $475 raw, about $1,250 in PSA 8 and about $3,500 in PSA 9. A Shadowless copy is worth roughly double that or more. A 1st Edition Charizard sells for several thousand dollars raw and well into five or six figures graded. Look for the 1st Edition stamp and the shadow next to the art box to tell them apart.

Which Charizard do you have?

  1. Find 4/102 in the bottom rightThat's the original 1999 Base Set Charizard. Other numbers mean a different set or a reprint.
  2. Look for the black “Edition 1” stampLeft side, just under the art box. If it's there, it's a 1st Edition.
  3. Check the shadow on the art boxNo shadow on the right edge of the picture frame and no stamp means Shadowless. A visible shadow means Unlimited.
  4. Check for anniversary logos2021 Celebrations and 2026 30th anniversary reprints copy the original look. They're worth far less.

What lowers the value

  • Whitening on the back edges. Flip it over: blue backs show every nick.
  • Scratches on the holo. Tilt it under a light.
  • Creases or bends, even small ones.
  • Off-center borders.

Pro tip: Played Charizards still sell. A worn Unlimited copy is still worth a few hundred dollars, so don't toss it in with the bulk.
